Survey: Rising crypto adoption in Norway

A recent Arcane Research survey found that 7% of all Norwegian adults own cryptocurrency. That’s a growth of 75% since 2019. While this survey strictly surveyed Norwegians, the adoption rate is likely moving at a similar pace globally.

A multitude of studies have tried to identify the demographic traits of bitcoin owners. Regardless of research country, these studies have been unambiguous - most bitcoin holders are young adults, and the older you get, the less likely it is that you hold bitcoin. Our recently published survey on the Norwegian cryptocurrency adoption differs in no way from this. Our survey found that currently 7% of all Norwegians own crypto. This is analogous to around 300.000 Norwegians owning crypto, and is an increase of 75% since the last time we ran the survey back in 2019. The trend from the survey is clear. Younger adults are far more inclined to hold bitcoin than older adults, with 12% of all participants aged 18 to 39 stating that they hold bitcoin in contrast to 3% of those aged 60 or more. We also surveyed those who stated that they currently owned no crypto whether they thought they would end up buying crypto in 2021. 4% of all the respondents indicated that they thought they would buy bitcoin in 2021. There is a considerable gender gap among Norwegian crypto owners. 11% of all men surveyed stated that they own cryptocurrencies, while only 3% of all females surveyed stated that they own crypto.
